    Ram down Eagles

    The Willow Glen boys golf team two-timed Oak Grove last week, beating the Eagles at Coyote Creek one day, then at Silver Creek later in the week.

    Matt Staton carded a three-over par 39 to lead the Rams to a 211-227 win over the Eagles at Silver Creek. Steven McMinn was close behind for the Rams with a 41.

    Earlier in the week, Staton and Nick Puthoff each shot a 38 at the par-35 Coyote Creek course to lead Willow Glen to a 225-236 win over the Eagles.

    Willow Glen is now 4-1 in the Mount Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League and 6-1 for the year.

    Netters split

    The doubles team of Huy Nguyen and Eric Bursch won twice last week, but the Willow Glen boys tennis team could manage just a split in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.

    Ngugen and Bursch won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, but the Rams lost 6-1 to Santa Teresa.

    Later in the week, the No. 2 duo won 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to help Willow Glen to a 4-3 win over Mount Pleasant.

    Cyrus Yazdani posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, Minh Phan and Chris Lyons won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles and Mike Nguyen and Alex Kane won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

    The Rams are now 4-2 in the division and 6-2 for the year.

    Rams win two

    Richard Stayskal and Guy Beahm sparked the Willow Glen boys volleyball team to back-to-back wins in nonleague action last week.

    Stayskal pounded down 14 kills to drive the Rams to a 15-3, 15-3, 11-15, 15-8 win over Hollister, and Beahm buried 17 kills to lead the Rams to a 15-9, 15-13, 15-11 victory over The King's Academy.

    Willow Glen is now 7-0 for the year.

    YMCA Sports

    The Central YMCA is offering a sports program for kids ages 3-6. The program, which runs for six weeks on Saturday mornings at the YMCA gym, includes basketball, floor hockey and soccer. For more information, call 408.298.1717, ext. 60.

    Coach needed

    Willow Glen head varsity field hockey coach Peggy Booth is looking for a junior varsity coach for the fall season. For more information, call Booth at 408.535.6330.

    Fencing Classes

    The Fencing Center will hold classes in foil, saber and epee at its downtown San Jose location, 110 Stockton Ave. Equipment is provided, and classes are for those ages 9 and up. For more information, call 408.298.8230 or contact their website at www.fencing.com.
