Soirée Musicale gives chamber music concert at local church
The Soirée Musicale, a Bay Area chamber music group, presents a free concert at 7:45 p.m. on April 7, at Westhope Presbyterian Church, 12850 Saratoga Ave. in Saratoga.
The program features well-known as well as rarely heard works, including Beethoven's Piano Trio Op. 1, No. 3 and von Weber's Clarinet Quintet in B-Flat Major, Op. 34. These pieces will be played by violinists Welton Lee and Yvonne Shu, violist Edward Hattyar, clarinetist John Pangia, cellist Arlene Lee and pianist Mark Reiss. The concert also includes baritone Robert Steiner and pianist Maria Reeves performing a set of songs by Aaron Copland and other composers.
In addition to Soirée Musicale, the evening's performers are all active musicians in various Bay Area chamber ensembles and orchestras. Many are also private teachers and belong to musical societies.
Soirée Musicale, founded in 1975, is dedicated to promoting chamber music and offers free bimonthly concerts in various Bay Area cities. Two or three of the six yearly concerts take place in public venues; the others are held in private homes. A reception follows each concert. Those attending are asked to bring either a finger food, a non-alcoholic beverage or a donation. All are welcome, including families with children.
