Walk San Jose looking for heroes on foot

Walk San Jose is accepting nominations for its first "San Jose Non-Motorist of the Year" award. Walk San Jose, a 400-member organization, works to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety in San Jose. Nominations for the award will be accepted until July 31, and will be selected by the Board of Directors.

"Pedestrians, bicyclists and others who leave their cars at home are the unsung heroes of this Valley," says Russell Westbrook, co-founder of Walk San Jose. "If we want less congestion, safer streets, and cleaner air, we should look to the example."

Winners will be announced in September. Winners will receive certificates of achievement and gift certificates from local shoe merchants. They must work or live in San Jose. Nominees must make walking, bicycling or other non-motoring activity a substantial part of their daily routine. Nominations can be sent to Walk San Jose at mail@walksanjose.org, or call 408.295.4715.
