Giants, A's win titles in Willow Glen Little League
By Dick Sparrer
It's been quite a baseball season for the Giants and A's. In fact, both are league champions. Oh, not the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's... not yet anyway.
But their namesakes in the Willow Glen Little League each came through with outstanding efforts in the 1999 campaign.
The Giants won both the first and second half championships to claim the overall title in the major division of the Willow Glen Little League.
The A's matched that effort in the minor division, winning both halves to clinch the title outright.
But the teams lost in the first round of the District 12 Tournament of Champions, but that doesn't mean that the '99 season is over for the players from Willow Glen. The league has all-star and tournament teams advancing to the District 12 postseason.
Members of the prestigious major division all-star team are Todd Anderson, Joseph Blank, Beto Cisneros, Jeff Coleman, Scott Hines, Aaron Hogue, David Krause, Kevin Madden, Austin Munro, Federico Ramirez, William Robinson, Matthew Skinner, and Robbie Steinberg.
Making up the senior division all-star team are Nate Anderson, Fernando Castenada, Robbie Copple, Patrick Cunningham, Bryan Ghiossi, Dan Healy, Brian Herrmann, Jared Jeffrey, Gregory Lovely, Eric Martin, Kevin O'Connor, Luis Pacheco, Jason Piraro, and Will Spencer.
Playing for the junior division all-star team are Sean Hennessy, Zachary Hopkins, Justin Jeffrey, Brett Levine, Jason Lick, Gary Lovely, Derrick Martin, Patrick Myers, Tim Smudski, Tim Stampher, Chris Stevenson, and Chris Van Horn.
