Adult tennis
Local tennis teams represented the area at the USA League Tennis 3.5 Adult National Championships held in Tucson, Ariz., Oct. 36. Recreational league tennis teams from across the country were in the field competing for national titles.

Glass of Palo Alto, Steve Goetz and Sean Tien of Milpitas, Emmanuel Riou of Santa Clara and Gregory Bock, Tad Kawamoto, Sanjay Mehta, Robert Pignatti and Franklin Scarf, all of San Jose; and Sunnyvale men—Captain Henry Buffalow of Cupertino, Les Besser of Mountain View, Raylin Choy and Robert Penn of Los Altos, David Hefner of San Jose, James Duran of Morgan Hill and Robert Cannataro, Gary Cates, Aidan Cullen and Peter Durnhofer, all of Sunnyvale.
Punt, Pass & Kick
The first round of the annual Punt, Pass & Kick contest will be held Oct. 13, 2 p.m., at the Camden Community Center, 3369 Union Ave. in San Jose. Boys and girls ages 815 (as of Dec. 31, 2002) are encouraged to participate. Competitors must supply copies of their birth certificates.

Macchi at Valparaiso
David Macchi, former quarterback for the Willow Glen Rams and West Valley College Vikings, is starting as a junior at Valparaiso University, an NCAA Division 1AA school in Indiana.
Macchi currently leads the Pioneer Football League in passing yardage (304.8 yards per game), and he is fourth in total offense and passing efficiency in the NCAA 1AA Division. In the first four games of the year, he has completed 69 of 110 passes (62.7 percent) for 1,203 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for one TD.
