University women host voter education class
The San Jose branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will host a voter education meeting on Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at its headquarters, 1165 Minnesota Ave., next to the Willow Glen Library.
The League of Women Voters will present information about the Nov. 5 ballot propositions. Refreshments will be served.
The AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change.

Books for Treats needs book donations
The nonprofit Book for Treats program is soliciting donations of "gently read" children's books. The books will be distributed to children on Lincoln Avenue on Halloween.
The Friends of the Willow Glen Library will hold a book sale Oct. 19 and will be able to provide advice on appropriate books for various age levels.

WGNA silent auction
The Willow Glen Neighborhood Association (WGNA) will hold a silent auction of historic Willow Glen photographs at the Willow Glen Coffee Roasting Company, 1383 Lincoln Ave., on Oct. 14 between 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Up for bid are seven pictures dating from between 1897 and 1922.
There will also be some merchandise from Founders' Day for sale, such as T-shirts, glass mugs, tote bags and baseball caps. Proceeds will go toward the 2003 Founders' Day.

Local author holds book release party
Lynn Rogers invites the public to a book release party and book signing on Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at Tea Travel & Tiques, 2281 Lincoln Ave.
Roger's first book, Born in Berkeley, follows teenager Caroline Ryder as she breaks away from her materialistic upbringing and comes of age during the transitional period between the Beat era and the civil rights movement. Along the way she meets counterculture icons like Ken Kesey and Neal Cassady.
The event will feature live folk music and an open discussion on issues from the era.
