Photograph by Moryt Milo Girl Detectives: Award-winning children's book author Wendelin Van Draanen spoke with more than 30 children on Oct. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at a book signing at Hicklebee's on Lincoln Avenue. Willow Glen resident Megan Barnett, 15, waited anxiously for her turn to meet the writer and have her autograph Sammy Keyes and the Search for Snake Eyes. The book is the latest in a series that focuses on the adventures of a spunky girl detective named Sammy Keyes. Van Draanen won the Edgar Allen Poe Award for best children's mystery in 1999.
