Ballet and food bank team up to make PSAs

Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara County have joined forces to co-sponsor a series of televised public service announcements for the Bay Area Hunger Holiday Food Drive.

The 30-second and 60-second spots were shot on location at Second Harvest's main warehouse in San Jose, using talent provided by Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley. The spots were shot in English and Spanish. Virtually the entire production was assembled with donated services and materials.

The commercials feature characters from Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley's production of The Nutcracker asking for nonperishable food donations. In the piece, a warehouse manager from Second Harvest Food Bank directs the Nutcracker Prince, the Mouse King and his army of mice in collecting and organizing collection barrels and stacking cans and boxes of food.

The PSAs have been sent to nearly every television station in the greater Bay Area.

Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley's production of The Nutcracker runs Dec. 1123 at the Center for the Performing Arts in downtown San Jose, 255 Almaden Blvd., between San Carlos Street and Park Avenue. Call the box office at 408.288.2800 for tickets and showtimes.
