Lawn bowling

Recently retired Willow Glen High School teacher, Terry Hause, in his first open lawn bowling tournament, won the Northern California men's novice singles championship. Fellow San Jose club members Anthony Zambataro and Larry Collaco finished second and third.

The local lawn bowling green is located at Frank Bramhall Park on Willow Street in Willow Glen.


Lincoln Glen sign-ups

The Lincoln Glen Little League will hold sign-ups for the 2003 season on Nov. 13, 5:30­8:30 p.m., and Nov. 16, 9 a.m.­2 p.m., in the rec room at River Glen Park, located on the corner of Bird and Pine.

Players must provide a birth certificate and proof of residency (PG&E, water or utility bill). The fee is $110 for players ages 5­6, $135 for players ages 7­12 and $145 for players ages 13­16. Fees include photos, trophies and a fundraiser, and those completing registration forms before Nov. 30 will receive a $10 discount per player.

Tryouts for players ages 7­12 will be held in January.

Volleyball tryouts

The Quicksilver Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for girls ages 13­18 on Nov. 3 and 10 at San José City College.

Tryouts are slated for Nov. 3, 1:30­3:30 p.m., for girls ages 13 and 14; Nov. 10, 9­11 a.m., for girls ages 15 and 16; and Nov. 10, noon­2 p.m., for girls ages 17­18. Players should arrive early to sign forms, and there will be a parents meeting at each tryout. The fee is $20 per player.

Softball tryouts

The Strikkers, a girls softball 16-and-under traveling team, will hold tryouts for the 2003 summer season on Nov. 17 and 24 at Oak Grove High School in San Jose. Pitchers and catchers should report at 11 a.m. and position players at noon. For more information, call Ernie Garcia at 408.281.7855.


Youth sports grants

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (BASHOF) is accepting grant applications from youth organizations and schools interested in purchasing new sports equipment.

The BASHOF Youth Fund has provided nearly $2 million to more than 350 sports organizations in the 11 counties of the Bay Area since its inception in 1981.
