Don't try to make any plans with the members of the girls volleyball team at Willow Glen High School this Wednesday night--they're busy.

The Rams, co-champions in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, are opening play in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.

Willow Glen wrapped up a division co-championship last week with wins over Lincoln and Oak Grove. The two wins left the Rams with a 10-2 league record, good for a title tie with Evergreen Valley.

"We're co-champions in the Santa Teresa League, but because we beat Evergreen twice, we received the automatic berth into CCS," said Willow Glen head coach Carlee Howie.

The Rams are 20-12 for the year and will take that record up against Santa Cruz (16-9) in a first-round CCS playoff match on Nov. 9, 7 p.m., at Willow Glen. The winner will move onto the tournament quarterfinals on Nov. 12, 1 p.m., against No. 3 seed St. Francis (22-7) at Leland.

Willow Glen is coming off of tough 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 25-12 win over Lincoln. Seniors Stephanie Wilson and Angela Pizella led the Rams to the victory.

Wilson topped the club with 22 service points, eight service aces and 32 assists. Pizella buried 19 kills and led the club with 10 blocks. Senior Emily Roberts added 10 kills and Corina Lopez and Katie Joyce shared the team lead with seven digs apiece.

Earlier in the week the Rams cruised to an easy 25-17, 25-16, 25-13 win over Oak Grove. Pizella had 14 kills and five blocks and Lopez led the team with 14 service points. Wilson had 22 assists and Roberts had five service aces and led the team in digs.

"They were amazing games--the girls are playing very strong," said Howie after the two wins.

Polo season ends

Reese Rotsaert tossed in three goals and Scott London added one, but the Willow Glen boys water polo team dropped a 5-4 decision to Evergreen Valley in the first round of the BVAL Santa Teresa Division playoffs.

The clubs were even at 2-2 after a period but the Cougars took a 4-3 lead by the half. Evergreen went up 5-3 in the third quarter, but the Rams could manage just a single goal in the fourth, coming up one short.

Tran, Vo get fourth

The Willow Glen team of Stephanie Tran and Diem Ly Vo, doubles champs in the Santa Teresa Division, finished fourth in at the BVAL tournament last week. Only the top three teams advance to the CCS tourney.

The Willow Glen duo knocked off an Andrew Hill pair 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in the quarterfinals, but lost to the eventual champs from Leland 6-3, 6-0 in the semi's.

They battled a team from Oak Grove in the third-place match, but lost 6-4, 6-1 to settle for fourth.
