Rams, Panthers busy this weekend
By Dick Sparrer
Most residents of Willow Glen are looking forward to Thanksgiving as a time to visit with family members, to devour a turkey day feast and to enjoy a relaxing four-day weekend.

Not so, though, for a group of boys and girls from Willow Glen and Presentation High Schools.

Oh, they'll enjoy Thanksgiving alright--but the boys and girls of the Willow Glen and Presentation cross country teams have so much more to look forward to this weekend.

A couple of days after Thanksgiving, the Rams and Panthers will compete in the CIF State Cross Country championships set for Nov. 26 at Woodward Park in Fresno. And they're giving thanks to an outstanding showing at the Central Coast Section finals on Nov. 12 for making the state trip possible.

The Willow Glen boys finished third in CCS Division III title at Crystal Springs and the Presentation girls also finished third in Division III. The efforts were more than enough to qualify the two teams for state berths.

Junior Marcos Corona led the Rams to a CCS third and a state berth by finishing second overall, covering the 2.95-mile course in 15:30.

Sophomore Mohamed Abdalla, junior Justin McArthur, junior Samson Galato and senior Robert Ramos rounded out the top five at CCS. They'll be joined at CCS by teammates Daniel Diaz, a junior, and Ruben Camacho, a senior.

Senior Kathleen Dazzi was seventh with junior Katie Wallace eighth in Division III to lead the Presentation showing at CCS. Freshman Rebekah, junior Lauren Ruiz, freshman Christina Lee and junior Megan Dunne will join Dazzi and Wallace at the state meet.

Willow Glen senior Kari Server barely missed a trip to state. She finished 12th in Division III, but only the top five placers from non-qualifying teams received state berths--she was seventh on that list.
