Police reveal no suspects in New Year's Day attack

By Mayra Flores De Marcotte

An investigation into a New Year's Day attack near Foxworthy and Meridian avenues has not revealed any potential suspects.

According to San Jose police spokesman Jermaine Thomas, investigators are following up on a few leads, but no one has been taken into custody.

The attack near the border of Willow Glen resulted in more than $25,000 in damages to a brand-new Lexus SUV and left one victim in intensive care.

According to police, a call came in at 1:22 a.m. on New Year's Day reporting a disturbance with weapons.

Although police have not released the victim's names, San Jose residents Jason Colyar, 29, and wife Maria have been named in media reports as two of the three victims in the attack.

According to police, the victims were coming back from a party at a nearby church when they stopped at the light at Foxworthy and Meridian avenues.

The victims said about 12 white people, age 15 to 18, were standing at the corner when they attacked the trio with no provocation, Thomas said.

The attackers--three to four females and the rest males--hit the car with skateboards, police said.

"Officers did observe damage to the vehicle, with one window broken," Thomas said.

One victim got out of the car to confront the teenagers and was also attacked with the skateboards, Thomas said.

The victim had a laceration to the head and complained of pain, police said. The victim received attention at the scene, then went to a local hospital on his own, Thomas said.

The family is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of all people involved in the attack.
