Students learn art, science and more

By Chris Vongsarath

Innovative teaching and hands-on learning return to Saratoga this summer with Camp Galileo.

At the camp, students can learn about art, science and technology, and the outdoors, giving them something else besides the usual reading and writing of a school curriculum.

Through partnerships with de Young Museum, The Tech Museum of Innovation and Klutz, Camp Galileo offers professional teaching techniques. This year's themes are "Shape It, Sculpt It! and Amusement Park Science," "Ancient Egypt and Crime Solver Scientists" and "Psychedelic '60s and Space Explorers."

The camp kicks off on June 23 at St. Andrew's School, 13601 Saratoga Ave., and runs three-week programs until Aug. 4. For a one-week session, the cost is $369, two weeks will cost $738 and three weeks is $1,057. The camp is offering a discount of up to $110 if parents sign their kids up by Feb. 29.

There are also 1,300 scholarships--300 more than last year--available to low- and middle-income families. Applications are available online and are due by April 14.
