The Sippy Cups perform kid-friendly rock.

Rock 'n' Roll Preschool

By Heather Zimmerman

A child can never be too young to start appreciating good music--and never too young to rock out--at least when The Sippy Cups are on the bill. Fresh from the Lollapalooza music festival, the family-friendly rock band hits the stage Aug. 12, 1 and 4 p.m., at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St., Mountain View.

The Sippy Cups got their start performing tunes that most of today's parents of young children will enjoy, by such rock icons as the Beatles, the Kinks, David Bowie, Velvet Underground and the Ramones, but performed to appeal to kids (and with edited lyrics, as needed). The Sippy Cups' current Summerlove Tour incorporates giant puppets, juggling unicyclists, aerial stunts and more. Dancing is definitely encouraged.

The group also plays original songs as well, which draw on classic and modern rock and pop influences. In fact, the band's second full-length album, Electric Storyland, features all original music.

Tickets are $18 adults/$12 children. For more information, call 650.903.6000 or visit www.the sippycups.com.
