Renowned glass artist duo comes to BAGI

By Heather Zimmerman

Most art exhibits feature works that are already finished, but a special show and event at the Bay Area Glass Institute offers a chance to watch art being made, hot off the press--or, actually, hot out of the shop.

Visitors can see art in the making and hear insights from renowned glass artist team Sabrina Knowles and Jenny Pohlman on Sept. 16, 1-4 p.m. at the Bay Area Glass Institute, 401 E. Taylor St., Suite 115, San Jose.

The Seattle-based Knowles and Pohlman have collaborated for more than 14 years. They have become known for works influenced by ancient African and Asian cultures that employ a variety of glass techniques, including blowing, sculpting and casting, and may incorporate metal, beads or other found objects.

Knowles and Pohlman appear at BAGI as part of the organization's Visiting Artists series. They will offer glass-blowing demonstrations, as well as a slide presentation and a talk. The event also includes an exhibition and sale.

Admission is free, although space is limited. For more information, call 408.993.2244 or visit www.bagi.org.
