Exhibit highlights Joan Miro's later printmaking
By Heather Zimmerman
Modernist artist Joan Miró had a style that was so distinctive, it's almost instantly recognizable. Perhaps that's part of why his work presents a glimpse of a surreal world that's also a bit familiar.
Visitors can explore part of that unusual world in the new exhibit "Joan Miró: Fantastic Universe," on view Nov. 3-Feb. 3 at the San Jose Museum of Art, 110 S. Market St., San Jose.
This touring show focuses on Miró's printmaking during the later part of his career, with about 60 works that include exhibition posters, portfolio covers and more.
"Fantastic Universe" delves into predominant themes in Miró's works, such as memory, nature and childhood. The exhibit also addresses Miró's unique ability to create art that was both playful and precise.
Admission is $8 general/$5 students and seniors. For more information, call 408.271.6840 or visit www.sjmusart.org.
